We are excited to announce we are now accepting submissions on a rolling basis for UHWO’s undergraduate scholarly journal for the humanities, Da Pueo Press (DPP).
DPP encourages UHWO undergraduate students across all disciplines to submit first-year writing, creative writing, and research-based writing. We welcome submissions in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, Pidgin, and English, as well as in a blend of these languages.
We are looking for work that correlates with this issue’s theme: Aloha ʻāina. Often understood as love for the land, aloha ʻāina evokes a deep, visceral connection to the Hawaiian homeland. It entails living as an integral part of the land and recognizing its interconnectedness with us. Embracing aloha ʻāina means incorporating this understanding into our actions, from land use to community issues. While we encourage submissions that resonate with the theme of Aloha ʻāina we are also open to works that might fall outside of this theme. We highly value the diverse voices and experiences of UHWO’s undergraduate community.
While we are accepting submissions on a rolling basis, our internal deadline for the Fall 2025 issue is May 31, 2025 at midnight. Our current focus is to include more pieces in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and Pidgin. Any works not published in the Fall 2025 issue will be considered for our future issues. When submitting, please complete and attach the faculty recommendation letter and refer to the DPP Website for specific submission guidelines and information on how to submit. Send any questions through email at dppsubs@hawaii.edu or through direct message on our Instagram page.
We look forward to reading your work!
