Stylized owl reading a book, designed in black and white with circular border

We are excited to invite submissions for the inaugural issue of UHWO’s undergraduate scholarly journal for the humanities, Da Pueo Press (DPP).

Da Pueo Press encourages UHWO undergraduate students across all disciplines to submit first-year writing, creative writing, and research-based writing to be considered for inclusion in the Spring 2025 issue. DPP welcomes submissions in Ōlelo Hawaiʻi, Pidgin, and English, as well as in a blend of these languages. Our hope for this student-run journal is that it spotlights the manifold ways that students write across a variety of genres.

We are looking specifically for work that correlates with this issue’s theme: Aloha ʻāina. Often understood as love for the land, aloha ʻāina evokes a deep, visceral connection to the Hawaiian homeland. It entails living as an integral part of the land and recognizing its interconnectedness with us. Embracing aloha ʻāina means incorporating this understanding into our actions, from land use to community issues.

The submission deadline has been extended to December 20th, 2024 at midnight. Senior capstones must be submitted by January 10th, 2025 at midnight. Please refer to the DPP Website for specific submission guidelines and information on how to submit and send any questions through email at dppsubs@hawaii.edu or through direct message on our Instagram page.

We look forward to reading your work!
